Over 80,000 chemicals are registered for use in products we use everyday. No pre-market safety testing required under any federal law for chemicals in cosmetics toys, clothing, carpets and construction materials to name a few. More than 80% have not been tested for health effects on children. None have been tested for their health effects when they interact with one another. Childhood cancer rates jumped 26% between 1975 and 1998. The number of children in special education programs increased 191% from 1977 to 1994. Childhood asthma rates increased 100% between 1980 and 1995. Our health is the result of complex interactions among genetic, environmental and social factors. Toxic exposures deserve special attention because they are presentable causes of harm.

In honor of Colette Chuda, who inspires us to continue to work to create a healthier life for children now an in the future. Colette Chuda was just five years old when she died of a rare, non-genetic form of cancer. Out of this tragedy, her parents Nancy and James founded Healthy Child Healthy World in 1992.
